Welcome to Accessible Fishing
This site features information on
adaptive fishing equipment,
handicapped fishing strategies,
fishing with a disability or making
fishing and boating accessible.
The Arsenal Anglers Fishing
Club started working on these
ideas in 1989.

The Arsenal Anglers host people
with and without disabilities at
the Rocky Mountain Arsenal
National Wildlife Refuge. The
Anglers have joined with the U.S.
Army, Shell Oil Company, and the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to
make an accessible fishery at
Lake Mary. They teamed up to
construct crushed granite trails,
docks and a floating boardwalk.
These adaptations make the
catch and release fishery easily
accessible by wheelchair.

The Anglers have also developed
adaptive rods to facilitate people
with various disabilities to catch
fish. Programs with groups such
as Children's Hospital and Craig
Hospital have provided fond
fishing memories for many
people who might not have had
the opportunity to do so. The
fishery is open to anyone on
weekends and Tuesdays from
6am-6pm. An orientation class is
required. Contact the Fish and
Wildlife Service at 303-289-0930
or the Arsenal Anglers at the
contact us page.

A young angler holds up two
typical largemouth bass. Catch
and release insures that these
fish will be bigger the next time
they're caught.
The floating boardwalk is 500'
long allowing an angler in a
wheelchair to fish all along it for
bass, bluegill, crappie and
channel catfish.

the peninsulas, two accessible docks in the distance,
the roofed picnic gazebo also in the distance and a
portion of the crushed granite trail in the foreground.

Lake Mary. There are a variety of
railings to make fishing easy and
safe.
Channel cats average 4 to 7
pounds and fight hard. They're a
favorite.
Bluegills are colorful and spiny. New anglers
get a lesson on how to handle these little
jewels without getting stuck
The bass in Lake Mary have provided
consistent catches like this since the
Arsenal Anglers started in 1989.
Lots of smiles
when you catch
lots of fish.
